Summer has finally arrived in Milwaukee, and with that said, it is the season of grilling brats, and sipping on summer cocktails. Â As my wife and I were doing a lot of yard work last week, and I mean a lot of it (I should say that she did pretty much all of it), I decided to stir up some concoction of homemade juice as I knew it would be extremely refreshing. Â Yes, I have still been juicing every morning after my workout, so this was somewhat of a no- brainer to throw together. Â The great thing about this is that you can come up with any number of variations, but I thought this one worked very well, and it allowed me to utilize a bunch of fresh mint from our garden.
Let’s get started.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 pints fresh blueberries
- 1 pint strawberries, stems removed
- 15 limes, squeezed
- 2 lemons, squeezed
- 4 cups cold water
- 1 cup fresh mint, chopped
- Ice
- Booze of your liking (optional)
Start by making a simple syrup. Add the sugar and water to a pot, bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then remove from the heat and let cool.
Using your juicer, juice the berries. Add the juice to a pitcher, or very large mason jar. Add in the lemon and lime juice, additional water, the cooled simple syrup, and the mint. Stir, or shake.
Serve over cold ice. If you are using alcohol such as gin, rum, or vodka, add to a shaker, along with ice, and serve.
Super refreshing, and super good for you to boot. What’s your favorite summer time juice concoction?
