It seems as though every time around this year I decide to make a family favorite, holiday snack. Well this year, since Thanksgiving I’ve made two of the same snacks because it’s been so darn delicious. It’s Chex Mix with a slight twist.
This one includes the all-time favorite everything bagel seasoning. I’m a big fan of everything bagels. Hands down it’s my go-to bagel especially when done right. That doesn’t always happen so thankfully Trader Joe’s and other stores carry and everything bagel seasoning.
I will be honest and let you know that I am not a big fan of the store bought Chex Mix. Something about it is just plain and slightly boring. Granted I love the crunch with the toasted cereal, but I often notice everyone eating the bag of Chex Mix typically is just picking out their favorites and leaving things like the bagel chips or pretzels to the side. That’s when making your own Chex Mix comes in very handy, especially when you can season it yourself.
I’m a fan of rice Chex, some nuts, a few of those bagel chips, and with my latest batch I’m a super huge fan of corn chips, in particular Fritos.
You can tweak to your own liking and that is the beauty of this recipe. If you want wheat Chex then by all means go that route. You get the point. Remember, Everything Bagel Seasoning is going to lift this one up a bit from the original.
Let’s get started.
- 8 cups Rice Chex
- 1 cup extra large peanuts
- 1 cup mini pretzels
- 1 cup bagel chips
- 2 cups Frito corn chips
- 10 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup Everything Bagel seasoning
- 1/2 tbsp garlic salt
- 3 tbsp Worchestershire sauce
Start by preheating your oven to 250 degrees.
Mix your seasonings into a bowl and set it to the side. Add the butter to a roasting pan and place it in the oven until melted, or simply put it in a bowl and place in the microwave for about 40 seconds until it is melted. Once melted, remove it from the oven, add in the Worcestershire sauce and seasoning blend and give it a good stir.
To the roasting pan, add the Chex, peanuts, pretzels, garlic chips, and corn chips. Give this a thorough, yet gentle stir. Pour the butter mixture (if microwaved) over the mixture and gently stir to lightly coat all of the mixture.
Place the roasting pan back into the preheated oven and cook for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove and give another thorough, yet gentle stir. Place back in the oven.
The total cooking time is going to be 1 hour.
Every 15 minutes, you will repeat this process of stirring and continuing to cook until the hour is up.
When the hour is up, remove it from the oven.
Let the Everything Bagel Chex Mix cool for about 30 minutes before storing, or eating for that matter.
My wife and oldest are the biggest fans of Chex Mix (I am as well if done right), and watching them devour this Chex Mix was an indication that I did this one right. If you are looking for a great snack, one that you can customize to your liking, and one that is loaded with great seasoning, then this is the one for you.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! All the love from our house to yours.
